I don't know who's going to read this. I don't care. I'm putting this further out there for the sake of maybe putting the issue to light for only a few people. It effects everyone, and in a way far more dramatic than most people are willing to realize. The backdrop is the issue of net neutrality. But the topic is Virgin Media.

Net neutrality is the concept that all websites on the internet should be treated equally by the internet providers, no matter the content, popularity, or topical interests of the users. It is the internet as we've always known it.

Virgin Media's president has declared that net neutrality is “a load of bollocks”.

The company is presently implementing plans and has already begun to favor websites that strike deals with them. This is the new face of advertising. Rather than simply putting out enough messages to make sure people will see them, they're going to alienate anyone who doesn't pay up and therefore increase their profits by removing the competition. I call bullshit. The radio was the next great media device, once. It was taken and monitored. Then came TV. Same story. Now the dawn of the internet has passed, and its transition into a major media pipeline has marked it with a massive bullseye on its metaphorical forehead.

The internet has, since its creation, been the last great bastion of free speech. Internet service providers are willing to give all that up for a monetary profit. I'm not going to take this. And neither should you.

So as of today, I'm boycotting Virgin and all their affiliates and subsidiaries. And I invite anyone who reads this to join me. Companies are made big by the people that purchase their services. We are their fuel, their life, their livelihoods. Let's starve the sons of bitches.
